======================================

A description of your current employer, your position, your duties and
responsibilities, and how they relate to current and future data
networking activities in your country*
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Management Information System Unit
We are responsible for managing all the applications developed to manage staff, student and pensioner records.
I am a Systems Analyst, which means developing applications, reports interface, search interface for various departments and units
We receive several request wanting to know the status of some individuals.
Our future goals is to have a webservice whereby government institutions (including foreign) and corporate organisations should be able to access our application to query it to confirm status of individuals instead of writing to us or giving phone calls or even sending people down to our University.
If we can get this done, other institutions will definitey buy into the idea. We will ultimately reduce fraud such as forgeries, falsification etc

A brief description of your computing and networking environment (operating systems,
networking software, modems, etc.), including the connectivity of your organization
to the Internet and your country's connectivity to the international Internet*
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been working with Microsoft Windows since Windows 98 up till Windows Server 2008. I moved into linux in the year 2003, when I discovered that Virus was a major problem
I discovered it was easy to do network applications using Linux and I started full implementation of networked application in 2010 at a workshop organised by PHEA in the University of Ibadan, We installed Moodle on my system and it served as the Web Server during the workshop, it was a fantastic experience seeing the ease at which network application can be deployed using Linux, We had problem configuring IIS on Windows 7, so I had to dual boot my machine for linux to be installed. My University has several ways of linking together, we have fibre and wireless connection in all the faculties, departments and units. We also installed spark so that we can do chat on the network. We are currently connected via the Bandwidth consortium

How your training and current work prepare and qualify you for the track you wish to attend*
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well my experience at my current work has really broaden my horizon. I know if i get additional training I will be able to do more qualitative and standarr work, and the overall objectives and target for giving access to the country will eventually be achieved.
I know that i need additional network skills to be able to develop quality softwares that will consider the infrastructures

How you expect to use the knowledge you gain at the workshop after you return to your country*
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The most important is to use new skills to develop my unit, I will also make sure that I train my other colleagues in th University of the technologies I have learned.
